Banana Republic is positioned as a luxury retailer with relatively higher price range merchandise. They have apparel for men and women. The stores are tastefully done and the shopping experience is good. But the designs are a little “serious”. The layering Ts and camisoles range from $20 – $30; blouses/shirts range from $60 – $80; tops ranging from $40-$60. These are approximate prices – to give an idea about the price range.

Currently a 500 store chain, this was started in 1978 by the Zieglers. It was a travel themed store. It was a acquired by GAP in 1983 and since then has been positioned as an up market clothing retailer. This chain is now expanding to Asia and the middle east.
